Creatives Highlight #2

Today in my completely random feature highlighting the work of PoC creatives, we have Kat Enright, who is a former agent and currently freelance editor.

I’m a freelance editor with four years of experience in publishing, both in house in editorial and as an Associate Agent. I left publishing at the end of 2019 due to health reasons and to focus what was left of my energy on my personal writing. But I still love the work, so I opened up my own freelance business to keep at what I love the most—editorial!

Right now I offer a variety of packages from query critiques all the way to full manuscript reviews. While I specialize in developmental edits for YA, Adult SFF, and Romance, I am open to working on query packages for all genres. You can see my website (katenright.com) for detailed information on my packages.

My goal as an editor is not only to help you develop your work, be it a query or an entire MS, but to help you become a stronger reviser. I aim to educate—if I do my job correctly, you will come out of this knowing more about how to be revise your work and with new resources to improve your craft. I not only provide feedback but also will point you towards new resources—craft books, blog posts, techniques and strategies—to help you moving forward.

So, if you’re interested in teaming up, please check out my website and send me a message! I’d be happy to talk about what I offer. But something I do want to call out here is that I am more than willing to work with writers on budgets. Trust me, I know how tight money can be. If that’s your financial situation, I’d be happy to set up a payment plan so that all writers can have a fair shot.

Kat Enright, (they/them), is a writer of adult fantasy and a freelance editor. Their previous experience in publishing includes stints at the Seymour Agency and Skyhorse Publishing, and they have a keen understanding of the many stages that a book must go through in order to reach bookshelves. When Kat is not working, they are often found playing video games, cooking, or exploring their newfound love of cocktails. They are represented by Jennifer Azantian of the Azantian Literary Agency.
