Aden A popular Hafed name. Also the name of a half-Kag, half-Jinsein mercenary. Oji’s friend, good with women (or so he claims).
Agartes Allaicras Hailed as the man who helped establish the city-states of Cael and Kiel, growing them from small towns to thriving economies. He later became a general of Hafod and was hailed by a “hero” by the commonfolk. His children and wife were massacred by a Dageian cohort after his retirement.
Ailat Ke-if and Enosh’s childhood friend. Child bride of a 12-year-old Ke-if.
Aldeti Agartes’ son, lover of music.
Alerio A tribune in the Dageian army, direct superior of Prefect As’ondaro.
Algat A mercenary from the Boarshind. Baeddan’s right hand man. Responsible for sending men to capture and punish Kefier after his flight into the wilderness.
Aliahe King Hyougen’s wife, the last Queen of Shi-uin.
Arlisa A prostitute from Cairntown. Fondly called “Lisa” by the mercenaries.
Arn A boy from the Laidari tribe, adopted by Gorrhen yn Garr.
Ashari alon gar Ashor A member of the Seven Shadows. Later blamed for the rise of Kibouri fanatics in the mountains north of Darusu.
Azchai Lord of the province of Barun in the Kingdom of Gaspar.
Baeddan Siromer Founder of the Boarshind.
Basho A warlord of Jin-Sayeng.
Basing Hired to man Enosh’s shop in Sutan.
Burgois Ylir yn Garr’s right hand man, fondly called “Burg” by all his friends. Half-Jinsein and half-Kag, he considers himself as “Ylir’s conscience.”
Caiso apn Willen An officer of the Boarshind.
Camden maic Camden A shepherd from Baidh who went to the mainland in search of his love’s son.
Ceres rog-Bannal A high-ranking mage from Eheldeth, the mage congregation and famous school at the Dageian Plateau. Kastor rog-Bannal’s cousin.
Cerknar Ceremonial name of a number of Dageian Emperors.
Comfrey Brothel and inn owner at Cairntown.
Dai alon gar Kaggawa Sume’s nephew, Oji and Han’s son.
Dalna One of Ylir’s women.
Dasten An officer of the Boarshind.
Dowan Knight-Commander of the Hafed army.
Elian The last High King of Gorent. Enosh and Kefier’s distant ancestor (as well as a number of Gorenten’s).
Elrend King of Hafod.
Enosh Ke-if’s brother from Gorent. Believed to be his half-brother whose mother (Meirosh’s first wife) died on the journey from Baidh to Gorent.
Errena A seamstress from Fuyyu.
Essonias Lahrin A Duke in Baidh with lands near Port Greenleaf. Sponsored Meirosh Tar’elian’s education. Incorrectly referred to as “Lawin” or “Larwin” because of his absence from relevant texts.
Eswenna A mercenary from the Boarshind, one of the few women to have been allowed after Anu-Sthura’s change of policies.
Faci A kusyan elder who was also, in his youth, a mage under Raggnar rog-Bannal’s teaching.
Fenri A popular Hafed name. Also prince of Hafod, King Elrend’s son.
Garo Rokarsh’s brother.
Gaven A mercenary from the Boarshind. Originally from Singular Seven but promoted as a new officer after Thiar’s untimely demise. He grew up in the streets before being taken in by Baeddan. Best friends with Oji before Oji became preoccupied with Kefier, whom he saved from slavery in Lon Basden.
Garril Lillah Artek’s paramour.
Giomis A soldier in the Dageian army, directly under Izo As’ondaro.
Goen alon gar Shoho Tetsung and Hana’s son.
Goran alon gar Kaggawa A member of the merchant/assassin group Seven Shadows organized by the late Dragonlord Reshiro Ikessar, later hailed as a hero by the commonfolk. A native of Akki, where he later set up shop and married Oneira aron dar Seran.
Gorrhen A popular Hafed name. Also the name of Agartes’ eldest son.
Gorrhen yn Garr A merchant whose company, Yn Garr Industries, has been creating improvements around the City-States of Cael and Kiel. Notable projects include the tunnel between Cael and Gaspar, as well as Gorrhen’s Pass, a road connecting the Kag City-States to the Kingdom of Hafod. Also trades throughout the mainland. He has been secretly at odds with the rog-Bannals of Enji in his quest for Naijwa’s beast.
Hamis Bergram A builder occasionally employed by Yn Garr Industries.
Hana alon gar Kaggawa Oji’s wife, a native Akkian.
Harron Silvaeres Owner of the Blue Dog Tavern, called Master Blue-dog.
Hegas An ambassador from Dageis.
Hertra Ylir yn Ferral Once a merchant and one of Gorrhen yn Garr’s rivals. Now one of Ylir yn Garr’s aliases, which he used after the true Hertra Ferral’s death (and after stealing most of his assets).
Hira alon gar Sethi Went by the alias Hirong Sethi and one of the members of the Seven Shadows. An old friend of Oneira.
Hyougen Shirahe-sa-Shi-uin The last king of Shi-uin.
Ichi rok Sagar Founder of Reshiro Ikessar’s Seven Shadows. Has a minor connection to the agan. His name denotes that his father is not Jinsein, but is in fact a Zarojo from the Empire of Ziri-nar-Orxiaro.
Imreia One of the keepers at Eheldeth.
Ing Vahn Dragonlord Rysaran’s travelling alias.
Iorwin A Hafed duke.

Jaeth High King Elian’s son, and a mage trained in Eheldeth. Later worked for Raggnar rog-Bannal.

Jama A strong kusyan, guard of the Elder Faci.
Jarche A ka-eng who is employed by Gorrhen yn Garr.

Jorri A blacksmith from Shirrokaru.
Kastor rog-Bannal Leader of the mages in Enji Island, a settlement founded by his ancestor Raggnar rog-Bannal. Their purpose is to keep an eye on Naijwa’s beast and its various incarnations to keep the world safe.
Ke-if/Kefier Tar’elian A Gorenten. Banished after his brother’s accident, he was picked up by a Dageian ship and spent the next two years as a slave. With the help of Oji, he was able to escape an extremely abusive situation that left him reactive and claustrophobic. Although he suffers from dyslexia, he is–at his best–an intelligent, thoughtful man.
Kirosha Kefier’s sister who died in the birthing bed. Also Rosha’s full name.
Lillah A singer based in Cael, but famous all throughout the Kag.
Lushai A warlord of Jin-Sayeng.
Mahe Amiren A junior officer from the Dageian army, right hand of Izo As’ondaro.
Mahe Shirahe-sa-Shi-uin King Hyougen’s daughter.
Makin A Gasparian and Ylir yn Garr’s go-to fellow for all his Gasparian affairs.
Marre apn Oilsin A rival merchant of Yn Garr Industries.

Meirosh Tar’elian A prince of Gorent, descended from the Gorenten High King Elian. Chief of Aldawan Village and father of Enosh and Ke-if.
Mhagaza Lord of the province of Al-ir in the Kingdom of Hafod. His lands border Jin-Sayeng, which has made him a fan of Jinsein affairs.

Moon Orsalian A mage from Enji. Sapphire’s younger sister.

Naijwa A Gasparian mage schooled in Eheldeth before the great Dageian-Gasparian war broke out. She was skilled in necromancy and used her own unborn child to create a powerful monster capable of untold destruction.
Narani A healer, mother of Ichi rok Sagar.
Oichi A warlord of Jin-Sayeng.
Oji alon gar Kaggawa Goran Kaggawa’s eldest child. A mercenary for the Boarshind and Gaven’s best friend. Saved Kefier from a life of slavery during a trip to Lon Basden.
Oneira aron dar Seran A daughter from the royal Seran clan. The aron dar name marks her as an “offshoot”, not directly descended from the clan (as opposed to the aren dar name).
Ordan A keeper from Eheldeth. Responsible for discovering Jirem rog-Bannal’s bastard son Vilum and sending him to Enji.
Osog rog-Bannal Kastor’s father, old leader of the Enji mages.
Raggnar rog-Bannal A mage from Eheldeth and Naijwa’s lover.
Rajiat K’an Mhagaza’s son.

Ran Princess Ran, second daughter of Reshiro Ikessar.

Rokarsh A Boarshind mercenary from the original Singular Seven group. Killed in retaliation of Kefier’s murder of Thiar. Fondly referred to as “Rok.”

Rosha Tar’elian A young girl, half-Gorenten and half-Jinsein.
Ryabei An “offshoot” Ikessar and regent of Jin-Sayeng during Dragonlord Rysaran’s many absences.
Ryia Youngest daughter of Reshiro Ikessar and sister of Rysaran Ikessar.
Rysaran aren dar Ikessar Only son of Reshiro Ikessar. Supposed to be Dragonlord, but he has refused to be formally crowned until he has acquired a dragon. He believes owning a dragon will bring good luck and prosperity to Jin-Sayeng, as past Dragonlords had done. A calm, virtuous young man who is nevertheless seen as Jin-Sayeng’s weakest king.

Sapphire Orsalian A mage from Enji. Moon’s older sister. Schooled in Eheldeth. Osog rog-Bannal’s bastard daughter.
Sechuu the Younger King Hyougen’s scribe.
Sera Agartes’ daughter, Jairon’s twin.
Sevlor A mercenary from the Boarshind.
Solat A mage assigned to the Dageian army. High Keeper of the Drusgayan defence.
Soshain Meirosh Tar’elian’s second wife. Of both Gorenten and Baidhan descent. Born in a certain Duke Lahrin’s household, she fell in love with Meirosh during his studies there and later accompanied him back to Gorent.

Sume alon gar Kaggawa Goran Kaggawa’s younger child, who sets off for Fuyyu to work as a seamstress after her brother Oji seemingly falls off the face of the earth.
